The name Sotogrande comes from one of five farms bought by Alfredo Melian in 1962 at the request of Joseph McMicking who wished to create a luxurious residential development by the Mediterranean.
Sotogrande is well known for its fast greens, but its wide and long fairways make the course suitable for all handicaps. The course is surrounded by Pines, Palms and Andalusian thicket. It has three golf courses, Sotogrande and Valderrama and La Canada.
The variety of vegetation gives this course a very special feeling, as it is covered by cork trees, pines and eucalyptus which apart from adding beauty to the course can make for quite a tricky round of golf.
The main hazards on the course, apart from the trees, are the big lakes, where the water will significantly complicate the game, and makes this an extremely entertaining round.
